Many people turn to essential oils and aromatherapy for a natural way to heal and nurture the body. They are used by millions of people every day, most of them without incident. However, essential oils are powerful substances and can be harmful if not used with due care and diligence. If you are unsure how to use essential oils, please consult a Rehability team member.

1. ANXIETY

ANISEED
Diffuse 3 to 4 drops as needed in an ultrasonic diffuser to reduce the symptoms of anxiety.

BERGAMOT, LAVENDER, NEROLI, YLANG YLANG
Diffuse 3-5 drops of any combination of the oils above throughout the day around someone suffering from severe anxiety/PTSD symptoms.

BLACK PEPPER
Rub 2 to 3 drops in the palms of your hands and inhale deeply as needed.

COPAIBA
To increase the effectiveness of Lemon or Orange for anxiety, blend copaiba in a 1 to 1 ratio before using topically or aromatically.

LEMON
Place a drop in your hands to inhale, rub a drop into long or short hair, or diffuse through the room during times of anxiety.

ORANGE
The aromatic use of orange can calm the nervous system and the mind. Try rubbing a drop between your hands and cupping your nose in times of stress.

JASMINE
Inhale jasmine oil directly from the bottle or allow the scent to fill the room through a diffuser.

FRANKINCENSE
Massage diluted frankincense onto your hands or feet. You can also add frankincense to a diffuser.

PATCHOULI
To relieve anxiety, inhale patchouli directly or add it diluted to a warm bath or room diffuser.

2. ARTHRITIS

CARROT SEED
Massage 2 to 3 drops into arthritic joints 3 times daily.

FRANKINCENSE
Massage frankincense essential oil into the joints and diffuse or inhale through steam daily.

MARJORAM
Massage 1 to 2 drops into the area of concern.

PINE NEEDLE
Massage 1 to 2 drops into the area of concern.

ROSEMARY
Massage 1 drop into the area of concern several times a day.

TURMERIC
Dilute with Black Cumin Seed Oil in a 1 part to 1 part ratio and massage gently into arthritic joints.

WINTERGREEN
Dilute as described above apply 1-2 drops over the affected area and massage into the joints.

3. CARPAL TUNNEL

CARROT SEED
Massage 2 to 3 drops into arthritic joints 3 times daily.

FRANKINCENSE
Massage frankincense essential oil into the joints and diffuse or inhale through steam daily.

MARJORAM
Massage 1 to 2 drops into the area of concern.

PINE NEEDLE
Massage 1 to 2 drops into the area of concern.

ROSEMARY
Massage 1 drop into the area of concern several times a day.

TURMERIC
Dilute with Black Cumin Seed Oil in a 1 part to 1 part ratio and massage gently into arthritic joints.

WINTERGREEN
Dilute as described above apply 1-2 drops over the affected area and massage into the joints.

4. CARTILAGE INJURY

Massage 1-2 drops of any of the essential oils listed above and 3 drops of Black Cumin Seed carrier oil over the area of concern several times a day or into the corresponding reflex points of the feet.

5. CHRONIC PAIN

CYPRESS
Massage 2 drops into the area of concern 1-2 times a day. Consistency is key.

EUCALYPTUS
Massage into the areas of concern daily to reduce pain.

KASHMIR LAVENDER
Massage several drops into the areas of pain gently. Gentle massage also has the benefit of overriding pain signals to the brain.

SANDALWOOD
Massage 2-3 drops over the area of concern with a carrier oil.

TUMERIC
Apply turmeric oil topically to the affected area, or infuse the essential oil into the air.

FRANKINCENSE
Apply diluted frankincense oil topically on the affected area.

6. JOINTS

BLACK PEPPER
Dilute 1 part with 1 part Black Seed Oil and massage into the areas of concern.

LEMONGRASS
Gently massage 1-2 drops over the area 1-3x a day.

WINTERGREEN
Massage into the afflicted joint 1-2 times a day, or as needed.

FRANKINCENSE
This oil offers anti-inflammatory effects that may help reduce joint inflammation caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Massage diluted frankincense essential oil into the inflicted area, being careful to move toward the heart.

7. MUSCLE ACHES/PAIN

AJOWAN
Dilute 3 parts to 2 parts black seed oil and massage gently into the area of pain. Repeat as needed every 2 to 3 hours.

BIRCH
Place 1 to 2 drops directly on the sore muscle and massage gently.

BLACK PEPPER
Rub diluted 3 to 4 drops into sore muscles.

CORIANDER
Place 1 to 2 drops directly on the sore muscle and massage gently.

CYPRESS
Add 10 to 15 drops of cypress oil to your bath and gently massage tired muscles.

MARJORAM
For natural muscle relaxation, massage 2 to 3 drops of Marjoram oil on sore muscles.

OREGANO
Dilute oregano oil 3 parts to 1 part carrier oil and then massage the oil into sore muscles.

TURMERIC
Dilute with Black Cumin Seed Oil in a 1:1 ratio and massage gently into sore muscles.

WHITE FIR
Gently massage 1-2 drops into each area of concern, moving toward the heart to assist the lymphatic system in expelling lactic acid buildup. Apply with ice or heat as need

PEPPERMINT
Peppermint contains menthol, which has a cooling effect on sore, achy muscles. It also has analgesic, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Add a few drops of peppermint essential oils to a bath or massage the oil into sore muscles for muscle pain relief.

CINNAMON
While cinnamon oil smells invigorating, topical application can relieve muscle aches and pain. It can also be used to increase circulation and decrease inflammation. It’s very important to dilute cinnamon oil with a carrier oil, prior to use.

8. RELAXATION / STRESS / CALMING

ALLSPICE
Diffuse for 2 to 3 hours at a time as needed throughout the day.

AMYRIS WEST SANDALWOOD
Open the bottle and take 4 to 5 deep breaths directly from the bottle for a calming effect.

LAVENDER
Whether you’re stressed, overwhelmed, angry or otherwise, lavender oil can be used aromatically or topically to calm nerves and emotions. Lavender essential oil is a must-have if you regularly experience stress and anxiety. It has been proven to restore the nervous system by lowering blood pressure and heart rate. It can help to calm the nerves, appease restlessness, and improve sleep quality. Use a lavender rollerball to apply to your temples and wrists, or combine with a carrier for a relaxing massage oil.

MELISSA
Place a drop in your palm, rub between your hands, cup over your nose and mouth and breathe slowly for up to 30 seconds or more. Also can be added to a warm bath or massaged directly on the skin to promote deep relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety.

YLANG YLANG
Used to promote feelings of comfort and joy. Massage oil into the shoulders or back, apply to the feet or use aromatically to promote peace.

9. SLEEP

AMYRIS
Diffuse 4 to 5 drops nightly to promote restful sleep.

LAVENDER
To enjoy a good night’s rest, simply put a few drops of essential lavender oil on your pillowcase or on a piece of fabric (or cloth tissue) placed on your pillow. Diffuse a few drops for a peaceful sleep.

VANILLA OLEORESIN
Diffuse 2 to 3 drops each night to help get a good night’s rest.

LUCID Dreaming Blend
Jade Bloom has formulated this unique blend of essential oils for deeper and longer sleep cycles in REMS and even induces LUCID dreaming.

10. STRESS

AMYRIS
Diffuse for 2 to 3 hours at a time throughout the day as needed.

BERGAMOT
Apply a single drop of bergamot essential oil to the palm of the hand, rub your hands together, and cup over the nose and mouth for up to one minute several times a day. Also, apply 1 drop over the abdomen several times a day.

LEMON
Diffuse or inhale directly. Pour approximately 1/2 cup of rice into a small glass dish and apply 10-15 drops of oil to the rice. The rice will release the scent slowly over time.

PINE NEEDLE
Massage 3 to 4 drops into temples and neck twice daily to help manage stress.

VANILLA OLEORESIN
Diffuse or inhale directly.

YLANG YLANG
Diffuse or inhale directly. Also, apply 1 to 2 drops diluted ylang-ylang oil directly on the neck and sides of the head and massage slowly. Add a few drops to your diffuser to lift your mood and create a calm atmosphere

LAVENDER:
Diffuse or inhale directly. Enjoy a relaxing lavender bath by combining several drops of lavender oil with a teaspoon of carrier oil or an unscented bath gel. Stir the mixture into warm bathwater just before entering. Lavender is a fan favorite for releasing tension and soothing the mind.

JASMINE:
Inhale jasmine oil directly from the bottle or allow the scent to fill the room through a diffuser.

ROSE:
Soak your feet in a basin filled with warm water and diluted Rose essential oil  You can also add rose oil to your favorite non-scented moisturizer or shea butter and massage into skin.

CLARY SAGE:
Inhale clary sage oil directly when you feel anxious, or massage the diluted oil into your skin.
