REIKI ENERGY HEALING
Reiki (RAY-key) is said to have originated in Japan with Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1800’s and brought to the United States in the mid-1900’s. Reiki is the combination of two Japanese words Rei and Ki which translate to “universal life energy.” This life force energy flows through all living things. It is believed when this energy is not balanced or blocked, stress or ailments may follow. Reiki is a holistic treatment which addresses the mind, body, and spirit. It creates wellness and facilitates healing. Although Reiki is considered spiritual, it is not religious and you do not have to believe in a divine being in order to benefit.
What can Reiki help?
The relaxing nature of Reiki can be beneficial for many individuals. It can help those who are feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and disconnected. Reiki can bring about a sense of peace, calmness, and a feeling of centeredness which in turn can help one to cope with everyday life challenges. It is important to remember Reiki is a complementary therapy. If you have a health concern, visit your doctor and seek medical advice. There are no contraindications as Reiki is a natural treatment; however, it should not be used in place of your doctor’s recommendations but rather alongside your treatment to aid in the healing process.
What can I expect?
When a client schedules a Reiki session, we provide Reiki in a position that comforts you whether that is in a seated or laying down position. Leaving your clothing, shoes or jewelry on does not affect the positive energy. Reiki is performed by a practitioner that has been attuned to the Reiki energy. Before you begin your treatment, the practitioner may ask why you are seeking Reiki and inquire about your medical history. This is to ensure they treat you safely and to the best of their ability.
The treatment itself involves the practitioner placing their hands gently on the body, or slightly above the body, in a series of hand positions. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the client. It is non-intrusive and should not cause any discomfort. Reiki is not massage therapy and there are no manipulations.
Each person experiences a different response and there is no right or wrong way to benefit from Reiki. During the treatment, some report feeling heat or tingling. Following a session, some individual’s report feeling deep relaxation, balance, and a sense of calmness. Reiki energy encourages the release of tension, stress, and negative feelings in order to bring about a sense of peacefulness and well-being.
