Whether you are scheduled for amputation, an individual with limb loss, or an experienced individual with limb loss, Rehability can help. We offer complimentary prosthetic consultations to educate and discuss options. Our practitioner works with upper and lower extremity amputations, including finger restoration. The relationship between a person with limb loss and a prosthetist is critical and often one that is lifelong.
Prosthetics is the design, fabrication and fitting of custom-made artificial limbs for patients who have lost limbs as a result of traumatic injuries, vascular diseases, diabetes, cancer or congenital disorders. These devices will restore, as completely as possible, the function and appearance of a full or partial missing limb. Because of vast differences in each patient’s anatomy, the fabrication of a prosthetic device is necessarily an intricate, custom procedure requiring a high degree of skill and sophisticated technology. The preliminary, or temporary prosthesis is followed by a definitive prosthesis as soon as the residual limb is stable.
Depending upon their complexity, prostheses represent a substantial investment of the health care dollar. Yet, studies have shown that, thanks to advanced designs and modern materials, those who require prostheses are most likely fully and successfully rehabilitated of all segments of the physically challenged population. Because of the improved function it allows, an appropriate prosthesis is an expenditure that more than pays for itself.
The design of the prosthesis is determined by the patient’s physical changes, activity level, and functional needs. Amputees generally require a new device every few years for the remainder of their lives. Children, due to rapid growth rates and high activity levels, along with extremely active adults need new prostheses on a more frequent basis. Prosthetic adjustments, repairs, realignment, and component upgrading are also aspects of ongoing treatment.
Each person we work with has different needs and lead different lifestyles. We are here to listen to you, consult with you and offer personalized prosthetic care to meet your individualized goals. The relationship between a prosthetist and an individual that has lost a limb is a lifelong partnership. Rehability offers a unique setting where prosthetists and therapists work closley together under the same roof, in one convenient location, to assist individuals with getting back to living life.
Rehability uses state-of-the-art prosthetic technology, including CAD/CAM and 3-D printing. We have a dedicated full-service sister facility, Alchemy Composites where these devices are custom fabricated. This greatly reduces the time between the initial evaluation and delivery of the finished prosthesis.
At Rehability, you will work closely with our prosthetist to design a device specific to your needs and activity level. This directly reflects our commitment to quality patient care, as our highly trained prosthetist utilizes the latest techniques and out-of-the-box problem-solving to craft prosthetic devices. Our lab continually evaluates processes to make improvements in the delivery of prosthetic devices.
